Rumbly in my Tumbly

Recently, we have enjoyed two new fooderies (I think this word is more accurate than restaurant, and I don't care if it's made up).

The first is Hygrade Deli. It's everything a deli should be--slightly rundown, laid back and delicious. The basic sandwiches come with just the specified meat and you have to order any cheese or condiments you might desire. Pastrami is taaaasty.

There was a sign on the door as we walked in that warned customers to leave their cars across the street where they can be watched from inside the deli, to lessen the likelihood of them getting stolen or broken into. Maybe we've been in Detroit too long, but we both felt quite comfortable in that area. At least in the daylight....

Now, when I say that this place is laid back, that's exactly what I mean. See those two women below? Both of them are employees enjoying a lunch break. The one on the left was our waitress. Every so often she'd lean over and ask us if there was anything else we needed. We found it quite funny. At least her mouth was never full.

Another place we heard about and thought we'd try was Wally's Frozen Custard in Harper Woods. It's one of those little places you walk up to and order at a window. The custard was tasty, but I think the best part was this phone booth outside. Naturally Ben climbed in, pretended to change into his superhero uniform, and then burst out.

What was his power you might ask? Making ice cream disappear.
